If it's spring, it is time for the Coronado Flower Show. We're getting ready for our children's "Hand Tied Bouquet" booth...sooooo much fun!
We try to believe that our meetings are for business, but there's just too much fun to be had!
Flamingos had Fun on July 4! Our parade entry was flutteringly good this year.....
A posy for you if you can answer: Who are these ladies? Where are they? And, what were they doing there?
Good Show!
ok -- ok ...it's just a little flamingo-joke from your webmaster :)
Why a Pink Flamingo?
Every year since its founding in 1972, Bridge & Bay Garden Club has sponsored an entry in Coronado's well known July 4th Parade. Our first entry was a lone rider on a flower-bedecked bicycle! After almost thirty years, trying to come up with a new idea every summer was becoming a chore. In 1999 we took hold of the idea of a traditional and slightly controversial garden ornament, the Pink Flamingo. Ann and Dodo tossed the idea around for awhile and then, with the invaluable design and sewing skills of Dodo's daughter Carrie, the Fabulous Flamingo Flock fledged. The response to the first appearance of the fifteen costumed ladies in almost-glowing pink, marching and dancing on big yellow feet down Orange Avenue was so amazing that the image caught hold. BBGC members began to be identified in a whole new way. Now people greet us with "Oh, you're one of the flamingos!" What better symbol for the club than a creature of so much brightness, whimsy, and longevity?
